Bio: Ive just finished reading a fascinating book titled The Singularity Is Near. It tells of an impending event, a point at which our technologys exponential rate of advancement surpasses our biology. This is more than the authors vision for the future; it is a forecast based upon verifiable data and observations. Still, as are most forecasts and visions alike, it attempt to present an upbeat picture of civilization in the 21st Century. Now, Im a big fan of technology; I have more than my share of PCs, iPods, plasma TVs, digital phones, and what-have-you. I have even experienced periods when I felt a warmer response from my technology than from the humanity within my proximity. And just a daily dose of CNN affirms this experience is not unique to me. This is where Im troubled. We humans have a propensity for such pain and abuse of each other. Whats up with that? Are we really drifting further from meaningful human dialogues? Describe myself? Well, I am one who still looks to the future with a sense of enthusiasm, and with the hope that our more positive primary instincts cannot be eradicated, or worse, supplanted by our runaway (yes!) technology.
